School Programs

Anger Management Program
 
The program is 10 weeks long. It is a psychoeducational course for skill development and understanding of anger problems. The purpose of the work is to develop a greater understanding and awareness of one’s anger, as well as teach skills to reduce anger outbursts and harm to self and others. The following are topics covered in the program:
 
            Week 1 Identify the Problem and the Costs
            Week 2 Anger as a Learned Behavior
            Week 3 Describing Anger Styles
            Week 4 Understanding the Anger Process
            Week 5 Identifying External Triggers
            Week 6 Identifying Internal Triggers
            Week 7 Learning Relaxation Skills
            Week 8 Interrupting the Anger Process
            Week 9 Beliefs and Values
            Week 10 Planning for Success
 
There is no riding in this program and all activities occur with horses on the ground.

​All that is needed is closed toed shoes and dress for the weather. We work in an Indoor Arena when the weather does not allow us to be outside.

​The cost is $300.00 per student for the 10 week program. There must be at least 6 students enrolled in the group and we take up to 8 in a group. Groups generally are 1.5 to 2 hours long. 
 

Cowboy Poetry Program 

The program runs for 13 weeks. The Cowboy Poetry curriculum is designed for students that are at-risk of failing in the traditional school setting due to failing grades, negative behaviors, suspensions or expulsion or low attendance. The lesson plans incorporate four different learning styles:

  • Discussion and Introduction of Life Skills
  • Hands on and Incorporation of Academic Standards
  • Experiential
  • Verbal Processing Activities
 
The Lessons are as follows:

Lesson 2 - Creative Thinking
Lesson 3 - Alertness
Lesson 4 - Imagination
Lesson 5 - Choices
Lesson 6 – Thriftiness
Lesson 7 – Punctuality
Lesson 8 – Attitude
Lesson 9 – Honesty
Lesson 10 – Courage
Lesson 11 – Sportsmanship
Lesson 12 – Integrity
Lesson 13 – Celebration

Journey of the Spirit Horse

​Journey of the Spirit Horse was developed for youth that are at-risk of falling behind in the traditional school setting due to special needs, failing grades, negative behaviors, low attendance, suspensions, or expulsions. Journey of the Spirit Horse is an exciting and innovative curriculum utilized to create an excitement about learning and therefore can engage even the most challenging of students.  Native American culture is the theme throughout the curriculum.

Equine Assisted Therapy of NJ is a Non Profit 501 c3 Corporation

Individual, Family and Couples Sessions are available. Group sessions and teambuilding are welcome.
 

We are an approved Equine Assisted Therapy program through VA's Adaptive Sports Grant from EAGALA Military Program.
